Upwas (Fast) Batata Vada

Fasting is one of the major traditions followed in India. Some people fast occasionally or on weekday basis etc.
The major issue arises in mind is what to eat on a fasting day. We usually find Sabudana Khichdi or Sabudana Vada as an option or we have Sabudana kheer, buttermilk etc for fasting.
Today I am sharing a simple yummy Batata Vada recipe that we can have on a fasting day. A simple and very easy to make deep fried vadas on a fasting day will give you an amazingly different taste than having a regular fasting food.
These deep fried vadas can be enjoyed with chilled curd, fried chili or yogurt chili chutney.
Not only for fast but you can make these vadas on any day, also you can serve these vadas to your guests too.
Do give this dish a try and I am sure you all will love it.

Upwas (Fast) Batata Vada
Ingredients
  • 5 potatoes
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds or cumin powder
  • Finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 2-3 finely chopped green chilies
  • Salt as per taste
  • 2 cups singhada flour
  • 2 cups of water
  • Oil for frying

Recipe

Pressure cook potatoes for 3-4 whistles. Cool them completely and peel them off.
Take the potatoes in a mixing bowl and mash them nicely. Add red chili powder, cumin seeds or cumin powder, finely chopped coriander leaves and salt as per taste to it and mix well. Make medium sized balls out of it and keep them aside.

Take singhada flour in another mixing bowl, add salt as per taste and add little water to it and make paste of it for covering for our vadas.

Heat enough oil for frying.

Now dip one potato ball in the singhada flour batter, coat the ball nicely from each side and gently slip it in the oil for frying. Fry till you get nice golden brown color of the vada.
Fry all the vadas following the same procedure.
Serve hot.
