Daal Chakli

Daal Chakli is not a regular fried chakli. But it is Steamed Wheat Dumplings with spicy Lentil Soup.
This is popularly known as Daal Dhokli in Gujarat. But Daal Dhokli is sweet and tangy in taste.
Today I am sharing a spicy version of it which we call Daal Chakli in Khandesh, Maharashtra.
These are easy to make and is a one meal dish. You can prepare these anytime you wish to have something different than regular Roti Sabji for lunch or dinner.
This dish is made up of wheat flour and the soup is made up of Pigeon Peas and contains very less oil so you don't need to be worried of having lots of fats while eating.
For diet cautious people this is one of the best option for you. Also we make it using wheat flour and pigeon peas so it is very healthy for us.
Enjoy making this Daal Chakli at home and I am sure you all will fall in love with it. Even kids love it a lot.

Daal Chakli
Ingredients
  • 2 cup wheat flour
  • 2 tsp oil
  • Salt as per taste
  • Water to knead dough
  • 1 cup pigeon peas (Tuvar Daal)
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Half tsp turmeric powder
  • Coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • Salt as per taste
  • 2 cups water

Recipe

Wheat Dumplings -

Take wheat flour in a mixing bowl and add salt as per taste to it. Start adding little water to it and knead a dough like we knead for making rotis.

Let the dough rest for 15-20 minutes.

Take a medium sized ball out of the dough and roll it. Apply little oil to and fold it. Now cut the folded roti into square shaped pieces.

Prepare dumplings out of the remains dough.

Daal -

Pressure cook daal for 2-3 whistles.

Heat a tsp of oil in a pan and add mustard seeds to it. As the mustard seeds start to crackle lower the heat and add turmeric powder, red chili powder and garam masala to it and add cooked daal into it and mix well.
Add 2 cups of water to and salt as per your taste. Now add the dumplings to it and stir it gently. Let it boil nicely and cook it till the dumplings are cooked tender and soft. Keep stirring in between.

Serve hot.
You can pour ghee over it and serve. (Optional)

*Note - For your convenience I have shared some pictures for the preparation of dumplings.
