Pinwheel Samosa

Making samosas at home is a tedious job. Most important thing while making samosa is giving it a perfect shape is very important.
The triangular shaped deep fried crispy pastry stuffed with yummy potato stuffing tastes yummy when eaten up with yummy spicy green chutney or tangy tamarind chutney.
Today I am sharing a yummy Pinwheel Samosa recipe with you all. These samosas are deep fried crispy wheel shaped samosas tastes best with fried chilies, green chutney or tamarind chutney.
These Pinwheel Samosas are great party treat. They make mouthwatering appetizer or can be served as chaat.



Pinwheel Samosa
Ingredients
  • 5 large potatoes
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds
  • 4 green chilies
  • Half inch ginger
  • Half tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp dry mango powder 
  • Salt as per taste
  • 2 cups all purpose flour (maida)
  • 1 tsp carom seeds
  • 4 tsp clarified butter (ghee)
  • Water to knead dough
  • Oil for frying
  • 4 tsp all purpose flour (extra)

Recipe

Pressure cook potatoes for 3-4 whistles.
Boil peas for 5 minutes.

Heat a pan or skillet and dry roast coriander seeds, cumin seeds and fennel seeds. Cool them completely and grind them to a coarse powder.

Take chilies and ginger in a grinder and grind it to a smooth paste.

For Outer Cover/Pastry -

Take all purpose flour in a mixing bowl add carom seeds, salt as per taste and 4 tsp clarified butter (ghee) to it. Mix all the ingredients well rubbing between your palms and you will get a nice bread crumb like texture of flour. 
Now add little water to it and start kneading dough. Grease the dough with 1 tsp oil and cover the dough with wet cloth or kitchen towel. 
Let the dough rest for 30 minutes.

For Stuffing -

Peel the boiled potatoes and mash them coarsely. Now add boiled peas to it.

Heat a tsp oil in a wok and add ginger chili paste to it.
Now add cumin seed, fennel seed and coriander seeds powder to it. Add dry mango powder, red chili powder to it. 
Now add mashed potatoes and peas to it. Add salt as per taste and mix well.


Pinwheel Samosa -

Knead the dough once again.
Take a medium sized ball out of it and roll it like roti. Now spread the potato stuffing leaving edges of the roti. 
Now roll the roti into a roll and close the sides nicely.

Take 4 tsp all purpose flour in a bowl and add water to it forming a paste.

Now cut the roll into small pieces. Following this step make all the pinwheel samosas.

Heat enough oil for frying.
Gently dip these pieces to all purpose flour paste and slip them in oil for frying. Fry all the Pinwheel Samosas nice and crisp till you get a nice light golden brown color.

Serve the hot and crispy Pinwheel Samosas with yogurt, green chutney or tamarind chutney and enjoy.
