Khaman Dhokla

This question usually comes in our mind... Today I am sharing a simple recipe with you called Khaman Dhokla. This is speciality of Gujarat State in India. 
For health conscious people this is the best dish as it is steamed so no extra fat and no extra calories.
A simple and easy to make recipe.

Khaman Dhokla

Ingredients
  • 3 cups of gram flour (besan)
  • Half tsp turmeric powder
  • Half tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 4-5 pinches of baking soda or Eno sachet
  • Salt as per taste
  • 2 cups water
  • 4 tsp oil
  • 2 tsp finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 tsp desiccated coconut
Recipe

Sieve gram flour in a bowl add 2-3 pinches of turmeric powder and start adding little water. Mix well so there should be no lumps in the batter. Make a smooth batter. Add salt as per taste, sugar and lemon juice. Mix well and keep it aside for 20-25 mins.
Later add baking soda to the batter and mix well. Grease the Dhokla plate with little oil and pour the batter in it. Heat the pressure cooker adding 2-3 cups of water into it and place the Dhokla plates inside. Cover it with the lid without putting a whistle over it. Cook it for 15 mins on a medium flame.

Tempering

Heat 2 tsp of oil in a small wok add cumin seeds and mustard seeds and let them crackle and switch off the flame.

After you turn off heating the pressure cooker let it cool down for 5 minutes. Then take the Dhokla plates out and insert knife in it, if the knife comes out clean it means your dhokla is ready.

Pour the tempering over it, cut the dhokla into pieces and serve with any chutney of your choice or ketchup.
