Mix Dal Pakora And Rassa

In India we all love fried version of foods.
Fried foods include lot of variety so today I am sharing one of the fried food recipe with you all.
Mix Dal Pakora with Rassa (Spicy Gravy). Though it is a fried dish but we get to eat mixture of different pulses in this dish. 
We can use variety of pulses and cereals in this dish. Today sharing with you my version of Mix Dal Pakora with you all.


Mix Dal Pakora 

Ingredients
All measurements are made by a small cup
  • 1 cup of black eyed peas
  • 1 cup of kidney beans
  • 1 cup gram dal
  • 1 cup of lentils
  • 1 cup of green gram dal
  • 1 cup moth beans
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 4-5 garlic cloves
  • 2-3 onions 
  • 4-5 tsp finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 2 tsp fennel seeds
  • 2 tsp red chili powder (depending upon your taste)
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1-2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1-2 coriander powder
  • 1 tsp chaat masala
  • Salt as per taste
  • Oil for frying
Recipe

Soak all the dals for 6-7 hours.
Strain soaked dals and blend them to a coarse paste using a grinder. While grinding add ginger, garlic cloves and green chillies to it.
Finely chop onions.
Take out the dal paste in a mixing bowl. Add finely chopped onions, finely chopped coriander leaves and dry spices red chili powder, turmeric powder, chaat masala, coriander powder, cumin powder and salt as per your taste. Mix all the ingredients well.

Heat enough oil in a wok for frying. Now using a table spoon start adding pakoras in oil and fry them till they are crispy and golden brown in color.
Take out the pakoras on a kitchen towel and serve hot.


Rassa

Ingredients
  • 2 large onions
  • 1 large tomato
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 3-4 cloves
  • 4-5 pepper corns
  • Half inch cinnamon stick
  • 3-4 garlic cloves
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 4-5 tsp grated coconut
  • 1 cup oil
  • 3-4 cups of water
  • Half tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp kashmiri red chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala/goda masala powder
  • Salt as per taste
Recipe

Chop onions and tomatoes.
Heat 2 tsp oil in a wok add chopped onions and fry them till they turn soft. Add bay leaves, pepper corns and cinnamon stick and mix well. Now add grated coconut and fry all the ingredients till the onions turn golden brown in color.
Let all the ingredients cool down completely.

Now take all the cooked ingredients, tomatoes, garlic cloves and ginger in a jar and grind them to a smooth paste. This is a basic masala paste needed to make rassa our spicy gravy.

Now heat 2-3 tsp oil in a pan and add the masala paste to it. Cook the masala paste well till the oil is separated, now start adding dry spices red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, garam masala or goda masala powder, kashmiri red chili powder and mix well. Cook all the ingredients together for a minute. Now start adding little water to it. The consistency of the rassa depends on you. How thick or thin rassa you need you can increase or decrease the quantity of water.
Boil the rassa for 5-7 minutes.
Serve hot.



*Note - Quantity of red chili powder in pakora or rassa depends on your taste.
*Note - Kashmiri red chili powder gives nice color to the rassa.
*Note - You can fry some green chillies and enjoy them with pakoras.
