Pujabi Chhole Masala

Punjabi Chhole Masala is an authentic dish from Punjab.
Chhole is known as Chick Peas. This chhole recipe can be easily made at home and it tastes best when had with Kulcha, Naan and Rice.
This can be a best treat for the spicy food lovers too. Also it can be one of the option in your list while hosting a party.
Simple ingredients that we easily find in our kitchen are used to make this dish and can be enjoyed with family and friends.


Punjabi Chhole Masala
Ingredients
  • 200 gms chhole (Chick Peas)
  • 2 tea bags
  • 1 large tomato
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 1-2 green chilies
  • 2 small bay leaves
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Half tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp chhole masala
  • Half tsp chili flakes
  • Half tsp black pepper powder
  • Half tsp tamarind pulp
  • Salt as per taste
  • 2-3 tsp oil 

Recipe

Soak chhole for 5-6 hours in warm water.
Boil 2 cups of water in a pan and add half tsp of salt to it. Now add soaked chhole to it and add tea bags to the boiling water.
Boil chhole nicely till they are soft and remove tea bags from it. Drain chhole and keep aside.

Grind tomato, half onion, garlic and ginger in a grinder to a smooth paste.
Chop chilies and remaining half onion finely and keep it aside.

Heat oil in a pan and add onions to it and sauté till they are translucent. Now add grounded tomato paste, chilies and bay leaves to it and cook well till the oil separates. 

Now add all dry spices to it and fry them for 30 seconds. Now add half cup of water to it and cook well for 2 minutes more.

Now add boiled chhole and 1 more cup of water to it. Add salt as per taste and tamarind pulp to it and mix well.

Cook the chhole well in the gravy for 3-4 minutes. Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves and serve.
