Maharashtrian Pithla
Ingredients
  • 1 cup gram flour
  • 1 onion
  • 2 green chilies
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • Handful of coriander leaves
  • Half tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • Salt as per taste

Recipe

Finely chopp onion, coriander leaves, garlic and green chilies.

Mix gram flour with 1 cup of water and make paste out of it.

Heat a pan and add cumin seeds to it and let them crackle. Now add onions to it and sauté for 1 minute. Now add finely chopped garlic and green chilies to it and mix well. Cook all the ingredients for 2 more minutes and add red chili powder and turmeric powder to it and give it a nice mix.

Lower the heat.

Now stir the gram flour paste and add it to the pan and immediately add 1 cup of water to it and mix well. Keep stirring. You will see the mixture will start thickening. Add salt as per taste and keep stirring.

If you find the mixture is too thick then add 1 more cup of water to it.

Pithla should not be very thick it should look like paste. If you add more water then adjust the taste of salt to it.

Switch off the heat and serve Pithla with Steamed rice, Roti or Bhakri with sliced onion or Mirchi Cha Thecha (Recipe coming soon)
