Dal Palak - Dhaba Style

Dal Palak combines both the goodness of lentils and spinach. It is a healthy delicious and one of the most made palak recipes in Indian homes. 
This dhaba style palak recipe is one of the perfect dish that will help you cooking fast and easily without spending much time in kitchen. This goes well with roti, paratha, naan, rice or tortilla.



Dal Palak
Ingredients
  • 2 cups lentils (tuvar dal)
  • Half cup gram dal (chana dal)
  • 1/4th cup peanuts
  • 2 green chillies
  • 2 cups chopped spinach
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • Half tsp turmeric powder
  • Half tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 2 tsp oil
  • Water 

Recipe

Wash lentils and gram dal nicely. Chop spinach leaves and mix whitewashed dals. Add peanuts to it.
Pressure cook all together for 3 whistles.

Finely chop onion and tomato. Slit green chillies.

Heat oil in a pan and add onions to it. Cook onions till they are translucent and add chillies and tomato to it. Add 2-3 pinches of salt so the tomatoes will get cooked faster.

Now add dry spices red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder and garam masala powder. Mix well and cook masalas for 30 seconds.

Now add the pressure cooked dals and spinach to the pan and mix well. Add little water. The dal should be thick in texture.
Bring it to boil and let it boil for 5 minutes. Keep stirring in between.
Switch off the flame.


Tempering
(Tadka)
Ingredients
  • 7-8 garlic cloves
  • 2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 3 tsp oil
  • 2 tsp red chili powder

Recipe

Chop garlic into small pieces.
Heat oil in a wok and add mustard seeds to it. Let them crackle and add chopped garlic to it. Fry garlic till it turns golden brown in color. Switch off the flame and let it cool for 2-3 minutes and add red chili powder to it. Mix well and pour this tempering over Dal Palak and serve.
