Peas Pulao And Dal Fry

Peas Pulao is one of my favorite and one of the simplest one pot meal. This pulao can be made quickly and also tastes delicious.

Same goes with Dal Fry. Simple and yummy dish goes best with pulao, paratha, tortilla, roti, naan etc.
Both the dishes are easy to make and can be eaten up for dinners when you wish to make something really quick.


Peas Pulao
Ingredients
  • 2 cups basmati rice (long grain rice)
  • Half cup peas
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 tsp coriander leaves
  • Salt as per taste
  • 2 tsp clarified butter (ghee)
  • 1/4th tsp turmeric powder (optional)
Recipe

Wash rice well and add 1 cup of water to it. Take the rice and water in a microwave safe bowl and cook the rice in microwave for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes take out the bowl from the microwave and add 1 tsp of clarified butter to it and add some more water to it. Again put the bowl in microwave for 5-6 minutes.
After the rice is cooked nicely spread it in a plate so it won't become soggy.

Now heat a tsp of clarified butter in a wok and add cumin seeds to it. Let them crackle and add peas and coriander leaves to it. Add a little salt to season the peas. Mix well and add a pinch of turmeric powder to it and mix well.

Now add the cooked rice to it and mix gently. Cover it with lid for 1 minute and switch off the flame and remove the rice in a serving bowl. 

Serve hot with pickle or dal.
                                                                                                                                                                   

Dal Fry
Ingredients
  • 2 cup lentils (tuvar dal)
  • 2-3 dry red chillies
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 3-4 cloves
  • 3-4 pepper corns
  • Half inch cinnamon stick
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 2 tsp butter
  • 2-3 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • Half tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 2-3 tsp coriander leaves
  • Half tsp kauri methi (dry fenugreek leaves)
  • Salt as per taste
  • Water

Recipe

Wash dal (lentils) nicely and pressure cook it for 2-3 whistles.

Finely chop onion, tomato and coriander leaves. Crush the garlic using a pestle and mortar.

Heat 2 tsp butter in a pan and add finely chopped onions to it. Cook onions till the become soft and add crushed garlic and mix well. Now add finely chopped tomatoes and cook till they become soft.

Now add whole spices dry red chillies, bay leaves, pepper corns and cloves to it. Fry all ingredients for 1 minute.
Now add dry spices to it red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder and garam masala powder, fry them for a minute.

Now add the cooked dal and 1 cup of water to it. Add salt as per your taste. Season with kauri methi and mix well. Boil the dal for 3-4 for minutes stirring in between.
Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves.




*Note - The combination of Peas Pulao and Dal Fry goes very well.

*Note - You can serve this pulao with buttermilk or yogurt too.
